International Plant Protection Symposium (IPPS-2024)

We are very pleased to announce the International Plant Protection Symposium (IPPS) -2024 to be held at Kathmandu on 26-27 April, 2024 with the symposium theme “Plant Health for Safer and Sustainable Future”. In Nepal, plant protection efforts and strategies are nullified by global climate threats such as climate change, drought, temperature rise, biodiversity loss, and many other hidden biotic issues. Many national and international interventions are currently in practice but no one of the activities are successful in completely eradicating the situation. It is expected that the IPPS-2024 will gather the experts from across the globe to contribute on the issues of current global biotic and abiotic threat. PPSN is therefore working together with PQPMC to host an International Plant Protection Symposium in Kathmandu which is sought to be an event to guide the Nepal Plant Protection in achieving its objectives.

Objectives

Accelerate the functional relation between plant protection systems
Policy recommendation for a better plant health system
Coordination and cooperation with national and international plant protection stakeholders while strengthening the effectiveness of NPPO

PPS - Nepal

Plant Protection Society (PPS) Nepal is non-profit Organization which officially established on March 28, 2003 (Chaitra 14, 2059 BS), with the aim of providing a common forum for all plant protectionists from various backgrounds including academia, researchers, extension officials, professionals, policy makers, technical staffs and entrepreneurs. Being a professional society, the primary duty of PPS-Nepal aims to bring all concerned plant protection stakeholders to the common platforms like seminars, symposiums, conferences, talk programs and idea sharing meetings to contribute to the national and international plant protection issues.

Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre (PQPMC)

Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre (PQPMC) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is designated as the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Nepal and so has to work in the field of plant health as a national implementation body with the responsibility of International and Regional contact point of International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and Asia and Pacific Plant Protection Commission (APPPC).

(Invasive and trans-boundary pests, Insect pest, diseases and weed management)

II. SPS and pesticide management

(SPS, quarantine issues, pesticide, toxicology, bio-control)

III. Industrial Entomology

(Apiculture, Sericulture, Lac culture and Mushroom cultivation, Insect as food and feed, biological control)

IV. Digital tools in plant health management system

- “Video demonstration" of poisoning/suicide due to pesticides

- Plant protection related digital tools

C. Poster session

D. Closing session

Best Presentation Awards

Awards will be presented for the best oral and poster presentation. However, to be eligible for the awards, the contributors have to adhere with the timelines mentioned under “Important Dates” and should follow the instructions for authors/ contributors.
